Description: These pieces are from Paper Clips, a wonderful documentary that I scored. The film tells the story of the town of Whitwell, Tennessee, and its junior high school’s project designed to teach their kids the scale of the Holocaust by collecting 6 million paper clips — a project that involves the whole town and beyond. I tried to match the somber but hopeful tone of the story with compositions to reflect the Appalachian setting, with the overtones of the Holocaust in Eastern Europe. Our team traveled to Nashville to record singer Alison Krauss on several songs, including a haunting version of the traditional dance tune “Jubilee.”

An Open Door is a feature-length documentary on the uplifting story of how a small Asian nation was able to save over 1,300 Jews as they fled the pogroms of Nazi Germany. It is written, produced and directed by award-winning filmmaker Noel M. Izon and co-produced by author Sharon Delmendo. This is the third film in his World War II trilogy Forgotten Stories.
This unique film will explore the rare confluence of the Pacific and European theaters. It juxtaposes momentous events in history such as the passage of the Nuremberg Laws and the inauguration of the Philippines as a Commonwealth of the United States.
An Open Door is the story of a deep friendship borne of common adversity and intense love for freedom. Together, Filipinos and Jews struggled, endured and ultimately prevailed.
Once again, Chaise Lounge packed the house at Chris’ Jazz Cafe in Philadelphia. Chris’ caters to a highly educated Jazz audience and when Marilyn sang her first note, jaws literally dropped. We hope to make this a regular gig and to add the World Cafe onto the tour by next time.

Description: I wrote this for violist Osman Kivrak. Although each movement is named after a town in Turkey, the music itself is more of a Western tourist’s look at the sights and sounds of the country. A postcard, if you will. I’m especially proud of the second movement.
Instrumentation: 2 fl(picc), 2 ob (EH), 2 cl, bsn, 3 trp, 4 hrn, 3 trb, tba, 2 perc, timp, harp, strings, solo viola
