Interview with Charlie Barnett

Your doctor says: “Go to this concert”DC-based jazz ensemble, Chaise Lounge, will lower your blood pressure When I first spoke with Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra Executive Director Ann Huntoon about Chaise Lounge, the Washington DC-area jazz ensemble that will be the guest artist at the symphony’s February concert, she had warned me that band leader Charlie Barnett is a fun character.

Close the doors on winter chills and join the CWSO as they welcome Chaise Lounge for a stop on their TUNDRA TOUR!  The band will be blowing in on February 25th and 26th and have promised a hot night in the Theater @1800 with their cool jazz standards backed by the CWSO.  These six band members comprise some of the best of the east coast musicians around today.  We’ll start the program off with Bernstein and Gershwin and then slide back into time to a “blend of music that sounds like it was recorded at Capitol Recording Studios in 1962 and somehow found its way to today’s pop charts.”

Charlie Barnett to score "An Open Door" by Sonny Izon

An Open Door is a feature-length documentary on the uplifting story of how a small Asian nation was able to save over 1,300 Jews as they fled the pogroms of Nazi Germany. It is written, produced and directed by award-winning filmmaker Noel M. Izon and co-produced by author Sharon Delmendo. This is the third film in his World War II trilogy Forgotten Stories.
This unique film will explore the rare confluence of the Pacific and European theaters. It juxtaposes momentous events in history such as the passage of the Nuremberg Laws and the inauguration of the Philippines as a Commonwealth of the United States.
An Open Door is the story of a deep friendship borne of common adversity and intense love for freedom. Together, Filipinos and Jews struggled, endured and ultimately prevailed.

Once again, Chaise Lounge packed the house at Chris’ Jazz Cafe in Philadelphia. Chris’ caters to a highly educated Jazz audience and when Marilyn sang her first note, jaws literally dropped. We hope to make this a regular gig and to add the World Cafe onto the tour by next time.
